Our goal was to make people aware that advertising as we know it was dead. We had transitioned from being strictly an ad firm to a full blown marketing firm over the last decade and changed our name. In an agency brainstorm I threw out the idea of having loads of grim reapers walking around the downtown area. This idea spitballed in to being a citywide event. We ended up having Grims around downtown, midtown, all the major highway intersections, overpasses, in malls, and so on and so forth. Needless to say... Guerrilla campaigns are a blast. <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72531/1978247/Radfive-Grims-Downtown.png" border="0" width="600" height="788" width_o="600" height_o="788" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72531/1978247/Radfive-Grims-Downtown_o.png" align="left" /> Throughout the day I managed the Grims to make sure they stayed in character and covered certain sections of the downtown area. Also, I shot some video and photographed the 20+ grims around town as they handed out cards that directed people to the minisite which explained our brand change. In the afternoon I even donned the costume and tried my hand at reaping. Then it was back to the office to edit the snippets together to post on Youtube. Twitter exploded that day wanting to know more about the Grims. Someone even set up a spoof account riffing off of our event. This campaign was for their "in the classroom" teaching kit. It was intended to get kids interested in overseas communities and to teach about a world very different from what they know. Refreshment Resources, asked my agency to develop the branding for a coffee line they were starting. While ProStar had been roasting their own coffee and selling it for a few years under the name Sonora Roasters, they wanted to start the brand from scratch and needed our help. The brainstorms for this project were some of the most exciting sessions of my career. After coming up with several names with the team, I took our leading suggestions and created several logos. They ended up selecting PARKS & Co.FFEE (Parks is their family name). After the Parks logo was finalized, we began the construction of their packaging and general branding. We created a single box for the entire line. The box was created to look like a family traveling case. The travel stickers show the markets PARKS delivers to, as well as some of the locations around the world that they get their beans. Upon completion of this project, I had the sad realization that I would probably not get the chance to work on such a fun from-the-ground-up campaign for a very long time. <img Words Are Empty And So Is Your Heart (now in black and white!) Initially I was only contracted to create a single illustration for the lead female's tattoo. It was for an important shot in the film where the character transforms, and the tattoo needed to contain loads of symbolism. After kicking a few ideas around with Ryan Daniel Dobson, the writer and co-director, we proceeded with a Lady Justice tattoo in the art nouveau style of Alphonse Mucha.
